Two people were injured as a wall of a three-storey old building, which was being demolished, collapsed on a street in Lalbahgh of Dhaka tonight.
Rickshaw puller Sabuj Miah, 50, one of the injured, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Abdul Halim, deputy assistant director (DAD) of Lalbagh Fire service Station, told The Daily Star.
Locals and fire service officials said Abdul Aziz, owner of the 50-year old building, has started demolishing it recently in a bid to construct a new building.
The wall of the building collapsed on Harnath Ghosh Road near Royal Hotel around 10:00pm, leaving rickshaw puller Sabuj and a taxi driver injured. The taxi driver was given first aid.
On information, three units of fire fighters from Lalbagh rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
The rescue operation was ended around 11:45pm, said DAD Abdul Halim.
