Bail petition in two cases rejected by N'ganj court

BNP chairperson's adviser Taimur Alam Khandakar was arrested in Narayanganj yesterday in connection with a vandalism case filed in 2015.

A police team led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station Kamaluddin arrested him at 1:00pm in front of the income tax office at Adalatpara area.

Lawyers and court sources said an arrest warrant was issued against him in connection with the case.

He was arrested during an ongoing campaign in favour of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad ahead of the Narayanganj Bar Association election on January 30.

Taimur, an Appeallate Division lawyer had also served as the deputy attorney general, said Narayanganj Bar Association's law and human rights secretary Shariful Islam Shiplu.

The way he was arrested and dragged by the cops was very sad, Shiplu said adding at least 10 others were injured in a scuffle that ensued during Taimur's arrest.

Md Sharfuddin, additional superintendent of Narayanganj police said, “Taimur was arrested in a case filed by Narayanganj Sadar Police Station in connection with a vandalism case filed in 2015.”

Former president of Narayanganj Bar Association Sakhawat Hossain, also a lawyer in favor of Taimur said, he was first produced before the court of Narayanganj senior judicial magistrate in a case in connection with attack on police.

Later, Taimur was also produced in the court of Narayanganj special tribunal-2 judge Mohammad Ali Hossain in connection with another case filed under Explosives Act.

Bail petitions were submitted for Taimur Alam Khandakar in both cases, but the judges after hearing denied bail and send him to jail.
